The countdown for the launch of .au direct is on!

One very important thing you need to do if you are planning to apply for the exact match of your existing .au domain name is ensuring your registrant information is up to date and that you know who your current .au domain is registered with.

If you are unsure who your current registrar is, you can check here. If your domain is with Fluccs, you can simply log into your Client Area account to check that your registrant information is up to date.

Priority Application Period

As you may already know; to make things fair to existing .au TLD holders, all .au direct exact matchers of existing .au domains will be placed on priority hold for the Priority Application Period of 6 months as of the launch date, which is 24th March through 20th September 2022.

At any time during the Priority Application Period, if you hold one of the exact match domains you can submit an application for the matching .au direct domain. In most cases, only one registrant will be eligible for the exact match and you will be able to register your .au direct shortly after applying.

What if multiple registrants are eligible for a .au Direct Domain?

There will be a small number of cases where multiple registrants are eligible and want to register the .au direct exact match. (i.e. Sarah owns business.com.au and Brian owns business.net.au). In these instances, the name will be allocated based on Priority Categories, which will depend on when your domain was registered.

If you would like to know if there is more than one registrant currently eligible for the .au Direct Domain you are after, you can use the Priority Status Tool to check.
If there is more than one eligible domain/registrant, it will also list the Priority Category the domains fall into.

What do I need to register a .au Direct Domain?

Once the Priority Status Application period opens on 24th March, you will require a Priority Token & Membership ID in order to submit your application. If your existing domain is registered with us, we can retrieve this for you.

If your current .au domain is with another registrar and you would like to register the matching .au Direct Domain with Fluccs, you will need to retrieve your Priority Token & Membership ID from your existing registrar or via the auDA Priority Token Tool.
